Riding, I can flex the rear triangle of this bike so much it will shift. It's not the levers or the mechs. The shift levers on the bike are retrofrictions. These are flexy bikes under bigger riders. I have to go a bit gentle on it at times. The smaller riders really liked these bikes, but there are issues for the bigger riders.
And reputedly, because the bigger frames have more fulcrum to flex and they do flex they are more likely to come apart than smaller frames, like the relatively puny frames pictured above. In short, if you find one, go ahead and buy it, but don't pay very much. That said, the ride on these is far nicer than on any other aluminum bike I have ever ridden, none of which I liked-- aside from the Vitus. And I really, really like their looks as well. It occurs to me I haven't photographed mine built up.
I'll try and do it in the next couple of days. Find More Posts by Chrome Molly. Originally Posted by Chrome Molly. I'm considering a build and I'm fully outfitted for a ride. I own three Vitus bikes. They are 56CM frames and I weight I have heard stories about breaking frames, but never met a person that owned one that broke.
I am sure it has happened, but I expect it is not as frequent as some may have you think. That being said I do check the frames from time to time just to be sure. Find More Posts by Steve Bauserman. I would not drill any holes for pins. I doubt the frame could separate enough enough without looking like an "I love Lucy" episode to actually come apart.
the real story on Alan/Vitus glued frames?

I did get one that was anoodle, but the guy that recommended it thought I was lbs. Everything is Perfect except the Tubulars they have to be replaced. Thanks pq for your two responses but I think I'll have to keep on asking for people's info on retro-bikes, as if I put my 'Alan' frame on e-Bay, I'd feel like a murderer, knowing what I've been told about it!
