Your feedback was impressive, but one topic came up numerous times: In this blog post, I will be answering your questions regarding the social life of a pilot. Check out also my new Video on my YouTube channel. Especially those of you who strive to become a pilot in the future asked me this question and informed me about their concerns. Everything is still possible but only a little bit more complicated.
Call me and I will drink with you, and we can laugh at how we think we have it all together. Cut yourself some slack and see the last entry above.
Dating a pilot is hard
DO — Embrace change. As soon as you get used to life as you know it, it gets turned upside down. The airline industry is anything but stable. Whether you make it an exciting adventure or another wrench thrown in your life is up to you. Like I said before, kids watch your every move.
You are not walking their path, and they are not walking yours. The only person you should compare yourself to is who you were yesterday. Focus on what makes YOU happy, and keep doing whatever that is.
The Survival Guide for Dating a Pilot
DO — Learn new things and be independent. If I sat around at home and waited for my husband to take care of things, we would both go crazy. Learning to do things myself is a HUGE time saver because it gives us more time to spend together when he is home. Even going to the local park with your kids for a picnic, or on a bike ride, or gasp!
I recently hired some neighborhood teenage girls to watch my little one while my son was in school and got myself a pedicure. And cheap well, the babysitting was anyway. And I was back before she woke up from her nap.
What would you add to this list? Imagine the other partner has also to travel for work. This requires good planning to have enough time together to keep the relationship running.
Another challenge couples could face are the base the location from where crews start their duty It happens that you need to relocate for a new cockpit job, but the partner is unable to move with you.
Aviation requires flexibility in many ways. I was flying as a private first officer when a woman had her head between the lap of a man. There was no door between the cockpit and the cabin in this aircraft only a curtain.
Being Married to a Pilot – Luck or Suck?
Yes, pilots do have a sex life like everyone else. Relationship and affairs within the same company only cause problems. Especially in smaller companies.
In the private jet company, I used to fly for I got to know a flight attended how had sex with a captain, then moved on to the head of flight operations and in the end, she was in the relationship with a First Officer. You can imagine that this was not easy for everyone involved. I have never heard of this! The flight operation in the Business Aviation required me to overnight at those locations wherever the last flight of the day took me.
Whereas the flights of many low-cost airlines end at their home base, which equals basically to a 9 to 5 job. The current operation once in while allows me to spend a night at home or it happens that a rotation is only of days.
But I could imagine that an operation, which allows you to sleep at home every night, can be a big advantage once you want to build a family. As you can see it really depends on the type of operation and airline how many days a month you can spend at home. But only 8 days at home this would be not enough for me to have enough time for family, friends and hobbies. I have arranged myself with the absence from home quite well.
I have a social life with friends and private activities like everyone else. Unfortunately, I can not attend all events like birthdays, concerts, parties and family events but due to good organization skills I get the best of my free time and I never have a big feeling that I miss out on something.
The greatest benefit of a pilot is that I get paid for traveling. When I finish my duty I leave work behind in the airplane and so I can use my off time to the fullest. Watch my video on my YouTube channel to find out what I do during my off days in Berlin.
Some pilots have itchy feet, never staying with one person, or in one place for long. Other pilots make solid commitments and will never leave.
It really depends on the person, not their occupation. Some jobs can be very stressful, with long hours, and spending long times away from home, but there are also aviation jobs out there, where they can be home every night in time for supper. It is entirely up to you, and your preferences as to whether dating someone is a bad idea or not.Dating a Pilot - What Kind of Lifestyle can You Expect
There are many advantages, especially if you marry one, and I have the perfect background to explain that answer, so here goes. She and I both flew for the same major US airline, which was on its merry way out of business. She was 10 years younger than I and still full of starry-eyed joy about flying for a living.
I was done with the whole thing and had zero interest in starting over at the bottom of another seniority list. She went to another airline. As I pondered the idea of being married to an airline pilot while not being one myself I thought of all of these advantages:. Run, run away as fast and as far as you can go.
Have you heard the song, "Mamma, Dont' Let your babies grow up to be Cowboys. Well it had originally been "pilots" instead of "cowboys", but the writers got stuck on a word to rhyme with "pilots". You see, Pilots are very similar to the cowboys in the song:. You will always be a pilot's second love. Flying is his mistress, his muse and his life-long dream.
He wanted to fly long before he met you. Flying was a tease, a just-out-of-reach Siren beckoning him on, beyond merely his journey, it became his life. And just when your pilot feels on top of it, like he's finally the master of his universe, that flying Siren reaches out and knocks him for a loop or a roll. You'll be jealous of flying, of the times he's away, of the people he's with while you're at home.
If you're a generous soul, willing to share a pilot with flying, go ahead, jump in feet-first. Just remember that when he kicks the tires and lights the fires, he's out of there, and slipping those surly bonds one more time, "even with someone he loves. I have been flying airplanes for many years.
I claim to be a pilot. I am also actively engaged in the process of trying to become first officer regional jet airline pilot. In my training, I got the chance to meet and interact with many professional pilots, both men and women.
They all, without exception, exemplified what I consider to be the finest human characteristics imaginable. People that I wanted to be like, people I wanted to be with. Members of a club I wanted to join. Smart, calm, confident people with the skills to pay the bills. It all depends on what you want in a mate. The pilots of today might seem a little on the quiet side.
We go to bed early because we get up early. Loud music hurts our ears and we drive within the speed limit. If we want to go fast, we have a way to do that. Not gonna happen in a car.
